In April 2023, Curiosity African Boutique sought to expand its reach beyond the grounds of Zulu Nyala Heritage Lodge and into the digital world. Our task was to build a comprehensive e-commerce store from scratch that would capture the beauty and craftsmanship of bespoke African arts and treasures. To ensure each product was presented in its best light, we traveled to Hluhluwe to set up an on-site photography studio, where we photographed thousands of products for the store.
The website was built with full integration into Meta Pixel, Google Analytics, and Omnisend email automations, including tailored messages like Welcome Series, Abandoned Cart, Post-Purchase Reviews, and more. We also included functionality for artisans to upload their own work and for B2B retailers to apply for trade partnerships, ensuring that Curiosity’s mission to empower local creators was embedded into the platform.
Since launching in February 2024, the site has achieved outstanding results. It now ranks on the first page of Google organic search for targeted keywords, has attracted multiple new B2B applications, and boasts a 5-star Google rating from 23 reviews. The e-commerce store is on track to contribute 10% of Curiosity’s total retail sales within its first 12 months.
